Travel scholarship application

Funding for ISSAD-2018 attendance will be available for up to 45 delegates who are resident and/ or citizens of Countries with Developing Economies (CDE). A very limited number of scholarships will be available to residents of HICs, who, without funding, would not be able to attend ISSAD-2018 (e.g. public health employees).

ISSAD travel scholarship will not cover:

  • Costs incurred to apply for and collect visa.
  • Airport transfers/ parking in country of residence.
  • Visa costs for South Africa.

Pre-requisites for ISSAD travel scholarship applicants:

  • Submit an abstract (as presenting author) for oral or poster presentation at ISSAD-2018, by 15th November 2017 via the ISSAD website.
  • Register for ISSAD-2018 via ISSAD website by 15th November 2017. For ‘Participant type’ please select ‘CDE-delegate’.
  • Add co-authors (full first and family name, affiliation details, e-mail)
  • Complete scholarship application form by 15th November 2017.

ISSAD travel scholarship will cover:

  • Economy-class return airfares to and from Cape Town, South Africa.
  • Registration for ISSAD-2018, including welcome cocktails on 20th February 2018 and gala dinner on 22nd February 2018.
  • Airport transfers in Cape Town.
  • Meal allowance for dinners during ISSAD-2018.
  • Single Accommodation (bed & breakfast) within walking distance of conference venue.
  • Travel insurance.

How to apply for ISSAD travel scholarship?

  • In addition to ‘Pre-requisites’ detailed above, ISSAD-2018 travel scholarship applicants need to e-mail the following documents to by 15th November 2017.
  • Scanned copy of passport (if travelling from outside South Africa) or other form of photo identification used for travel, including date of birth and nationality.
  • Letter of support from academic institution/ university/ institution, addressed to ‘ISSAD-2018 travel scholarship selection committee’.
  • Any applicants who have not completed all required fields of registration, scholarship application and abstract submission, plus supporting document submission prior to 15th November 2017 will not be considered for a travel scholarship.


Travel scholarship applicants will receive confirmation of receipt of scholarship application within two weeks of submission.

Applicants will be informed about the decision of the scholarship review committee by 15th December 2017. No negotiation of selection committee’s decision will be undertaken.
